Dunwich Heath is one of Suffolk's foremost conservation areas and along with Orford Ness, it provides important habitats for rare birds, insects, plants and animals, including scarce species like the nightjar, Dartford warbler and ant-lion, as well as wonderful walks with coastal views. At Dunwich Heath you can visit the Coastguard Cottages for information and there is a shop and the Coastguard Tearoom.

Orford Ness, which was also a secret military testing site from 1913, has a 5 mile pedestrian route with information and displays.
