Suffolk is the only county in East Anglia to be visited by the Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton ahead of this year's games in Glasgow. Four towns across the county will play host to the baton on 9th June 2014. In support of TeamEngland at the 2014 Games in July, the baton will begin its tour of Suffolk by visiting the easterly town of Lowestoft, the Racecourses at Newmarket and a schools' sports event in Bury St Edmunds. In Ipswich it will visit an athletics event at Northgate Sports Centre before heading to Christchurch Park for a huge celebration event where it is expected to see similar crowds to those that turned out to greet the Olympic torch in 2012.
