And then there are ideas that begin with a feeling.
Almost two years ago, the team at Salthouse Harbour Hotel started noticing a shift in what guests were truly looking for when they escaped to Suffolks’ county town. Luxury was no longer just about beautiful bedrooms, great food and harbour views. Increasingly, guests were searching for experiences and unique things to do.
What began as conversations around guest feedback soon became a much bigger vision: creating a wellness space that felt true to the Salthouse experience — relaxed, restorative and deeply connected to the waterfront setting that makes the hotel so unique.
Today, that vision becomes reality with the introduction of the hotel’s new spa and wellness facilities.
Designed to complement the rhythm of the marina, the spa has been carefully created as a calm retreat in the heart of Ipswich’s vibrant waterfront. The new facilities include treatment rooms, a relaxation lounge, Himalayan sauna, aromatherapy steam room, ice fountain, experience showers, foot spas, loungers as well as a bespoke ‘Wallow Pool’.
The launch marks an exciting new chapter for the hotel, evolving the Salthouse from a destination known for dining and stays into a place focused equally on wellbeing and restoration.
At the centre of the spa experience is Ishga, the award-winning Scottish skincare brand renowned for its organic seaweed-based products. Inspired by the healing properties of the ocean, the partnership felt like a natural fit for the Salthouse’s waterside location and philosophy of understated luxury.
Guests will be able to enjoy a range of treatments including massages, facials, detoxifying body rituals and wellness experiences tailored to modern lifestyles — whether that means post-work relaxation, a weekend reset or a longer wellness-focused stay.
The journey to opening the spa has involved extensive redesign and redevelopment within the hotel, including the £2 million transformation of the ground floor to create a more immersive guest experience from the moment visitors arrive.
But while the facilities are new, the thinking behind them has always remained the same.
The Salthouse has long been a place where people come to reconnect — with family, friends, celebration or simply, to connect with the Suffolk landscape. The addition of the spa simply deepens that experience, creating more opportunities for guests to pause, recharge and spend meaningful time together.
As wellness tourism continues to grow across the UK, the hotel hopes the spa will become not only a destination for visitors to Suffolk, but also a sanctuary for the local community.
Whether it’s an early morning reset, an afternoon treatment followed by time in the relaxation lounge or afternoon tea, or a full spa stay by the waterfront, the new offering has been designed to bring moments of calm and casual luxury into busy lives.

Guests can enjoy spa access, a luxurious treatment experience and an overnight stay overlooking the marina with dinner and breakfast — proving wellness isn’t something that should wait for the weekend.
On Sundays We Spa
Designed to ease guests into the week ahead, On Sundays We Spa transforms Sunday nights into something worth looking forward to. Combining a relaxing overnight stay with time in the spa and a slower pace by the waterfront, the package is all about ending the weekend feeling restored rather than rushed. With packages from just £99.50 per person, the experience has also been created with local guests in mind — offering the perfect opportunity to finally experience Salthouse Harbour Hotel not just as a bar, brasserie or landmark on the waterfront, but as a place to truly stay, unwind and switch off.
Stay & Spa
For guests wanting the full Salthouse experience, Stay & Spa combines luxurious accommodation, spa access and dinner into one restorative escape, with the option to book spa treatments. Whether visiting Suffolk for a special occasion, a romantic getaway or simply a much-needed break, the package has been designed to balance relaxation, dining and waterfront luxury in one seamless stay.
Day Experiences
Designed as a boutique wellness retreat rather than a large-scale spa destination, the spa at Salthouse Harbour Hotel has been intentionally created as a smaller, more intimate space focused on relaxation and personalised experiences. Alongside overnight spa stays, the hotel has also introduced a collection of spa day experiences designed especially for local guests looking to escape for a few hours of calm by the waterfront. Blending time in the spa with restorative ishga treatments and relaxed dining experiences, the new spa days offer a chance to pause, recharge and enjoy the Salthouse in an entirely new way — without the need for an overnight stay. To preserve the calm atmosphere, group bookings are limited to a maximum of six guests at any one time.
The Morning Reset
Available Monday to Friday, The Morning Reset has been created for those looking to start the day differently. Guests arrive between 8am and 10am to enjoy breakfast, a session in the spa facilities and a relaxing Ishga treatment — offering a slower, more restorative way to begin the morning.
TIME TO Spa-Tea
Combining wellness with indulgence, Spa-Tea invites guests to enjoy spa access between 10.30am and 1.30pm alongside a luxurious ishga treatment, before settling into afternoon tea overlooking the marina. The experience has been designed as the perfect catch-up with friends, celebration treat or midweek escape from everyday routine.
